Tennessee Whiskey is often confused with Bourbon, as they have very similar processes and flavour profiles. But just like Champagne needs to be from the French region of the same name, this Whiskey needs to be from Tennessee to be called as such. Introduced to the region by Scottish and Irish immigrants who wanted to recreate a taste of home, Tennessee Whiskey is made with a 51% mix of corn and is matured in charred oak barrels to give it its distinct flavour.
To meet the requirements to be named Tennessee, this Whiskey also goes through an extra stage in the brewing process called the ‘Lincoln County Process’ which is where the first ferment is filtered through sugar maple charcoal before being put into barrels for at least two years.
