While pink Gin may seem like a newcomer to the drink’s cabinet, it has been around for a good while. It is said to have been created in the 1800s by the Royal Navy and was a combination of Gin and Angostura Bitters. It was ideal for quelling the seasickness sailors often were struck down with. The addition of Angostura Bitters gave the Gin it’s now trademark blush colour, and it has since gained a strong following; primarily due to the newer additions of sweet berry and botanical flavours.
While traditionally drunk over a glass of ice and nothing more, the pink Gin of today is perfect drunk on its own, with tonic or mixed into any number of cocktails.
