Plantation Rum 5 Year is made from a blend of Barbadian rums that are subjected to a two-step ageing process. First, it’s aged in Barbados—the birthplace of rum, by the way—before moving onto Chateau Bonbonnet in France, where it’s aged in oak barrels used previously for Pierre Ferrand cognac. The finished Plantation Rum 5 Year is golden amber in colour, boasting a rich, multi-level flavour profile. On the nose you’ll find notes of ripe tropical fruits and creamy vanilla, balanced with a dash of coconut and peach; the palate warms things up first with a bouquet of candied fruits and smoky bourbon vanilla, followed by a wave of fresh fruits and delicate tannins. Overall Plantation Rum 5 Year is a deliciously balanced sipper that is an excellent value for quite a well-travelled formula.
