Pampero Aniversario Rum is a Venezuelan dark rum made from a blend of the brand’s most exclusive reserves. It’s got a rich sweetness and nice, healthy spice to it. If the leather sac it comes packaged in isn’t already a hint, this stuff is full-bodied from the outset, rich as can be and so satisfying. Triple-distilled from molasses, it’s aged for a minimum of four years in casks previously used to mature whisky or sherry, giving it a reddish brown colour of dark amber or topaz, a real jewel of the shelf. On the nose, Pampero Aniversario Rum is powerful and complex, with notes of sherry, raisin, vanilla, and cinnamon. Once it hits the palate, you’ll notice strong fruity notes, sweet and full, with a bit of dryness that’s characteristic of a product distilled from sugar, and hints of chocolate, caramel, and brown sugar. The tobacco finish is long and satisfying, with an oaky dryness and hints of leather. Pampero Aniversario Rum is known for its sweetness, so if you’re someone who appreciates a decadent, dessert-like dark rum for after dinner, this is the ticket. Overall, Pampero Aniversario Rum is deserving of every award it’s won, and it won’t take more than a few sips to understand why.
