This well aged cherry liqueur gets its name of Sangue Moralacco from Italian poet and soldier Gabriele D?Annunzio in 1919. It means ?Morlacco?s Blood? and was a nod of respect to the Morlaccas who were warriors fighting against the Turks to protect their Venice homeland. This liqueurs sour cherry flavour comes from the Marasca fruit, grown by the Luxardo family itself. After spending two full years maturing in oak vats before bottling it takes on a smoky pepperiness and a hint of marzipan as well as the expected jammy cherry flavour. Described by some as a cherry brandy on steroids, this deep burgundy coloured liqueur packs a heady cherry punch. Enjoy on its own of mix into cocktails for a deep cherry hit and a lovely red glow.
