Dalwhinnie
We know you’re probably wondering where this Scottish malt gets its unusual name from, right? Well, it’s Scottish Gaelic and translates to ‘the meeting place’ which is thought to symbolise the crossroads near the Dalwhinnie distillery- but no one really knows for sure.
Since 1897 the distillery has had a few owners including an American company which lasted fourteen years before being taken over by James Buchanan (now under the Diageo umbrella). You could say he was pretty good at his job as the distillery was chosen as the Highland representative in the Classic Malts section!
The famous Dalwhinnie Distillery
The place where all the magic happens! Located in Cairngorm National Park at the heart of the Scottish Highlands is the Dalwhinnie Distillery. It’s been around since 1898 and was soon recognised as the perfect place for distilling, what with the freezing climate resulting in rapid condensing.
Under normal circumstances it’s open to the public so you can expand your knowledge on the delightful Dalwhinnie, but for now, you can satisfy your cravings by visiting their online virtual tour instead!
Dalwhinnie 15, a very good Scotch indeed
Despite the distillery going through some ups and downs in the past, Dalwhinnie scotch has always stayed consistently good. It’s often described as having a subtle aroma, light honey in colour and flavoured with hints of vanilla, smoke and fruit- it’s more of an easy sipping drink than one to down quickly but certainly a top favourite with us.
Brr it’s Dalwhinnie Winter’s Gold
Yet another classic from the Dalwhinnie brewery, this whisky is intended to be served straight from your freezer! Originally produced from whisky distilled in the freezing Scottish winter, this one-of-a-kind whisky delivers sweetness with hints of honey peat, perfect for a hot summer’s day.
