Classic German brandy brand, Asbach has been around since 1892, when it was founded by Hugo Asbach in Rüdesheim am Rhein, who also made his mark in the industry when the Treaty of Versailles ordered Cognac to be used on French products only. So instead, he coined the term ‘weinbrand’, which was made an official classification according to Germany’s wine law in 1923.
The following year, Asbach introduced ‘brandy beans’ brandy-filled pralines.
Today, Asbach remains a much-loved German brand, and the spirit is often served long, with cola. Its maturation process happens in small oak casks made from Limousin oak, which allows the brandy to breathe and mature, while taking on the natural aromas and colours of the wood.
