Celebrate International Coffee Day on the 1st October in style… and by style, we mean teamed with a healthy glug of something alcohol-infused.
If you want to turn up your coffee a notch then topping it up with a shot of whiskey is great. But adding a splash of tequila can add a twist to your latte. So if you want to do your bit for International Coffee Day here are our top suggestions for what to pair with your coffee beans.
Frangelico Hazelnut Liqueur
You don’t need us to tell you what a perfect combination hazelnut and coffee is, so this liqueur is one of our top choices. Its caramel, sweet tones are just the ticket. We say skip dessert on the 1st October and serve up a round of coffee infused with this nutty choice instead.
Patron XO Cafe Tequila
Hear us out on this one. While tequila may not be a natural choice, we think it pairs brilliantly with coffee. Here, the sweet notes of vanilla and creaminess of chocolate contrast with the bitterness of the coffee for a smooth sip that could become your favourite.
Ciroc Amaretto Vodka
Flavoured vodkas are great for summer cocktails, but this amaretto-spiced concoction will add a kick to your coffee. Cherries and almonds add a sweet edge, enhanced with just a hint of vanilla. We know, we know… it’s vodka and coffee, but you’re going to have to trust us on this one. Almond isn’t a strong flavour, so use this in a weaker coffee to get the full effect.
Kahlua
It’s genius really, adding a coffee liqueur to a coffee. But if you want to add more depth to your hot drink and really bring out the roasted flavour, the original coffee flavoured liqueur is just what you need. Kahlua also happens to be the key ingredient for an Espresso Martini, so will work whether you like your drinks hot or cold.
Dark Matter Chocolate Orange Liqueur
From Scotland’s one and only rum distillery, this is the perfect blend of orange and chocolate and will give your coffee some pep. This rum fuses bitter and zesty oranges with smooth dark chocolate and will come alive in your coffee mug.
Just remember everything in moderation people. The boss may not appreciate your taste in coffee, so save it for a post-work winter warmer.
